During operations with AGN-201 “COSTANZA” nuclear research reactor of Palermo University a failure of a compensated boron-lined ionization chamber provided with a measurement channel was highlighted. A maintenance program aimed to verify the operative conditions of all measurement systems was then started. It was easy to identify as cause of the malfunction a seepage of water inside the container of a Westinghouse WL 6377 ion chamber due to a lack of watertight closure. Poor Esophageal Motility: A Tailored Approach?

New onset dysphagia following antireflux surgery is among the most undesirable side effects of an otherwise excellent therapy. While its cause is multifactorial, insufficient circular muscle strength of the esophageal body, not powerful enough to force the bolus through the distal neo-high pressure zone, can be a component of the pathophysiology. The relative merits of “tailoring” the degree of fundoplication based upon esophageal body motility and/or other clinical features have been debated for decades. Herein we discuss the rationale for a tailored approach, its pros and cons and review data published to date available to guide the clinician in individual patient decision-making.

Predicting the time variation of radio emission from MHD simulations of a flaring T-Tauri star

ABSTRACT We model the time-dependent radio emission from a disc accretion event in a T-Tauri star using 3D, ideal magnetohydrodynamic simulations combined with a gyrosynchrotron emission and radiative transfer model. We predict for the first time, the multifrequency (1–1000 GHz) intensity and circular polarization from a flaring T-Tauri star. A flux tube, connecting the star with its circumstellar disc, is populated with a distribution of non-thermal electrons that is allowed to decay exponentially after a heating event in the disc and the system is allowed to evolve. Radiative surface temperature and convective flux calculation over crop canopies

The analysis presented in this paper aims at a better understanding of the potential role of radiative temperature, as measured by a radiometer over crops, in sensible heat flux calculation. Defining radiative temperature as the mean temperature of the surfaces viewed by the radiometer (leaves and soil surface) and assuming that an Ohm's law type formula can be used to express sensible heat flux as a function of the difference between air temperature and radiative temperature, the aerodynamic resistance which divides this temperature difference has been analytically defined.
